Motorola has managed to garner the attention of Indian buyers, thanks to its sturdy range of performance-oriented smartphones. When Lenovo announced Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus, expectations were high, given that both these devices promise to offer more for new buyers of Moto. Moto G5S, which is the cheaper variant, is competing against much-cheaper Redmi Note 4, and according to early reviews, the device is a clear winner. Should you buy Moto G5S? here’s a quick take.

Performance and specifications

Let’s start with the design. Moto G5S features a full-aluminum body, which looks and feels premium. The device does look better than Note 4 for those who are interested in knowing this aspect. At its core, it runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC chipset and comes with 4GB of RAM with 64 GB of internal memory, expandable up to 128 GB. The device has a 5.2-inch full-HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, and if you go by the colors, it is pretty decent for the price paid, but there’s no denying that Moto G5S Plus works better in that department. It comes with 3000mAh non-removable battery, which offers a performance of 12 hours, which is a bummer given the size of the phone.

Things to note

Moto G5S doesn’t have two cameras on the back like Moto G5S Plus, but the 16 MP back camera works well and comes with phase detection autofocus (PDAF). The front 5 MP camera is strictly okay. You get the device out of the box on Android Nougat, but expect updates soon. The box also contains a headset, along with a TurboPower charger, which offers 6-hour performance with 15-minute charge. The weight of the device is less than 160 grams, so it doesn’t feel heavy.

Should you buy Moto G5S?

Moto G5S is available at a discount on many stores, so you can get it for a price lower than Rs. 14,999, which is great deal if you are comparing it with Redmi Note 4. For those who have tried other known devices from Motorola, such as the Moto C Plus, Moto G5S is a good update for them. The device does get away with some of the issues that Moto G5 had, but it could have had a better battery. Camera performance isn’t bad, but probably that could have been better too.
